Elk browse in the Hot Springs Ranch secton of the Filoha Meadows Nature Preserve along the Crystal River. The preserve is Managed by Pitkin County Open Space and Trails. Owing to nearby geothermal activity, areas of the meadows remain free of snow, providing critical winter range for elk.
