Yellow Pond Lily, Nymph Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park

Customarily, I don’t do much shooting once the sun has cleared the horizon, as the light often washes out detail and leans strongly toward blue, especially at higher altitudes. In this case, however, I was able to use the phenomenon to creative advantage. Selecting a camera angle to maximize the sky’s reflection and intentionally overexposing large areas of the frame to further soften detail transformed the situation into this nearly abstract composition.
